Baja California to Take Part in Mexico's First National Aerospace Industry Show

Tijuana EDC along with Baja California government representatives are preparing to take part in Mexico's first international airshow and aerospace tradeshow dubbed Feria Aeroespacial México 2015.

In its final planning stages, the event is part of the country's celebration of the 100th anniversary of its Air Force and will be hosted at Santa Lucia No.1 Military Air Base near Mexico City this coming April 22 through 25.

Along with Baja California Governor Francisco Vega and Baja California Secretary of Economic Development Carlo Humberto Bonfante, members of the Tijuana, Mexicali, Tecate and Ensenada EDCs will form the delegation from the state at the airshow. The delegation will be promoting a business-to-business agenda to develop the supply chain for Baja California's aerospace industry – the leading aerospace cluster in the country of Mexico. In addition, Governor Vega will be hosting the show's official reception along with Mexican President Peña Nieto.

Together with delegations from the five other major aerospace manufacturing clusters in Chihuahua, Querétaro, Jalisco, Nuevo León and Sonora, the Baja California team is working to make this airshow an international showcase of Mexico's growing position as a leader in the aerospace manufacturing sector. These six aerospace clusters combined account for nearly 90 percent of the country's aerospace exports.

"With a steady growth rate of almost 20 percent, Mexico is gaining momentum in the global aerospace industry and it is time to let the world know we are a leader in aerospace manufacturing," said Cristina Hermosillo, Tijuana EDC President. "Baja California's more than 50 years of manufacturing experience has resulted in the state holding the largest concentration of aerospace jobs and companies countrywide."

Mexico is the sixth largest supplier to the U.S. aerospace industry and the 14th largest supplier globally. The industry accounts for more than 285 companies that export aircrafts parts and components. Mexico's aerospace exports accounted for $5.5 billion in 2013 and, according to estimates from the Aerospace Industry Strategic Program, that number is expected to reach $12.3 billion in aerospace exports by 2021 with an average 14-percent annual growth rate.

"This industry is one of our strongest sectors," Hermosillo added. "The CaliBaja Mega-Region has been steadily developing an advanced manufacturing ecosystem and integrating certified suppliers to its chain for decades, our academic institutions have ramped up to provide needed talent in the workforce, and we are ready to promote our capabilities globally."

In addition to the airshow component, the premier Feria Aeroespacial México will feature 550,000 square feet of exhibit space in 5 repurposed hangars at the air base. More than 300 exhibitors have snapped up nearly 90 percent of the available space and include aerospace giants such as Bombardier, Boeing, UTC, Honeywell, Airbus and Safran.
