The Maquiladora Industry Supplies Catalog (Catalogo de Proveeduria de la Industria Maquiladora (Capim)), which is already considered part of Mexico's industrial development policy, will be expanded to serve all manufacturing companies in Mexico, according to Rene Mendoza Acosta, regional Director for the National Chamber of Electronic Telecommunications Industry and Information Technologies
(Industria Electronica de Telecomunicaciones y Tecnologias de la Informacion (Canieti).
During the presentation of the printed version of Capim 2013, Mendoza Acosta explained that the catalog is actually an electronic network for the first business contact between maquiladora companies and whoever may provide supplies.
He explained that the system includes very precise details about suppliers' production capacity and quality; therefore, maquiladora companies, and now companies from domestic industry, can make better decisions on possible suppliers.
Mr. Mendoza Acosta explained that maquiladora industry requires close to US$9 billion per annum in supplies, of which Mexican companies barely sell between 2% and 3%. He said that increasing such percentage would create thousands of jobs, generating wealth for Mexico.
