The initial segments of a pedestrian skybridge, aimed at connecting Tijuana's A.L. RodrÃguez International Airport with San Diego, have been successfully installed in Mexico.
These two sections, each spanning 150 feet and weighing a combined total of 150 tons, were meticulously positioned above the VÃa de la Juventud Oriente over the course of two days. The installation required careful coordination, with traffic diversions implemented along the affected route on both Saturday and Sunday. The subsequent phases of the bridge, situated on the U.S. side of the border, are slated for placement in the coming weeks.
This ambitious project, known as Cross-Border Xpress, is being privately funded with an investment totaling $120 million. Anticipated to commence operations by the end of this year, it offers a convenient passage for ticketed airline passengers, who will have the option to cross between the Tijuana airport and a spacious 65,000-square-foot facility in San Diego. This facility will encompass a range of amenities, including shops, dining establishments, parking facilities, and various ground transportation services.
