Mexico International Boat ShowBoating enthusiasts will flock to Cabo San Lucas in May to celebrate the third annual Mexico International Boat Show and Marine Products and Services Fair at its new location – the IGY Marina Cabo San Lucas in front of the Wyndham Cabo San Lucas Resort.

A new lineup of exhibitors reflects a growing segment in Mexico's robust nautical tourism, boating and yachting market. The show, which takes place May 1-4, 2013, is the only boat show and marine products and service fair on the Baja California peninsula and Mexico's entire West Coast.

To celebrate its arrival, Lux Penny Vacations has partnered with Pisces Sport-fishing and Playa Grande Resort to promote a six-day deep sea fishing excursion. The fun-filled package includes $250 off of your deep sea fishing trip on the Sea of Cortés, six nights at the luxurious Playa Grande Resort, and limo service to and from the airport.

volkswagon mexico manufacturing plant workerRobert Moser moved the manufacturing of his company's lines of cleaning products and kitchen gadgets to China during the last decade. Now his company is moving its manufacturing again—to Mexico.

"When you look at total costs, you're pretty much at parity," says Moser, president of Casabella, based in Congers, N.Y.

Companies like Casabella couldn't move out of Mexico fast enough a decade ago, sending production to China to take advantage of the cheaper wages and prices in a country keeping its currency artificially low.

kamil220Mexico's newfound competitiveness helps it regain a share of the U.S. import market it had lost to China.

The U.S. market has long been critical to Mexico—not only to its manufacturing sector, but to its overall economic strength. When Mexico signed the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) nearly two decades ago, the greater access it provided to the U.S. market was a boon to the country's manufacturing base, whose share of the country's GDP grew by almost 4 percentage points in the five years following the signing of the treaty. In turn, Mexico's share of the U.S. manufactured goods import market increased from slightly above 7 percent in 1994 to nearly 13 percent in 2001.

mexican-railroadsRailroads in Mexico will invest more than US$700 million this year, mainly to improve infrastructure and purchase equipment.

Rogelio Velez, CEO, Ferrocarril Mexicano (Ferromex), said that the outlook for the industry is encouraging, not only for the impulse offered by the federal government, but also for the behavior of US economy.

"In 2013 we want to achieve record figures, investment will be US$454.9 million and Ferrosur's will amount to US$50.4 million, most of it for infrastructure and capacity (...) not for engines because we had already invested on this", Mr. Velez said in XII Exporail.
