ACCIONA will build Mexico’s Baja California II power plant, an 80 million euro project

ACCIONA will build Mexico’s Baja California II power plant, an 80 million euro project

The contract consolidates ACCIONA's business line in Mexico where the Company recently completed and commissioned the La Paz power plant.

Mexico's Comisión Federal de Electricidad [Federal Commission for Electricity] has awarded ACCIONA the Design, Supply, Build and Commission contract for the EPC of the electrical generation plant known as 229 CT-TG Baja California II, Phase 1. The future plant will be located within the existing "Presidente Juárez" plant in the municipality of Playas de Rosarito, Baja California, 22.5km south of Tijuana (Mexico). The project is expected to take 16 months to carry out. The contract is valued at US$104 million (around €80 million).

The plant covers a broad spectrum of electrical production, ranging from the minimum charge from a single turbine to the power generated by three turbines at maximum charge (134.54MW). It will be equipped with a so-called DLE (Dry Low Emission) system: this uses a combination of pre-mixers, nozzles and precision temperature control of the flame during combustion to reduce NOx and carbon emissions. In addition, greater turbine efficiency is achieved through a demineralized water system between the two compression phases; this improves the electrical energy production/fuel consumption rate.

This contract consolidates the industrial business line that ACCIONA Infrastructure-through ACCIONA Engineering-has started up in Mexico. The Company recently completed and commissioned the 43MW Baja California Sur III power plant in La Paz (state capital), at an investment of 107 million US dollars (around 82 million euro). The new plant will contribute to the electricity supply in La Paz and local tourist resorts and it is estimated that it will deliver electricity to more than 100,000 inhabitants. As well as building the facility, ACCIONA will provide technical support and spare parts over a ten-year period.
