Binational Mega-Region Concept vs. Geography
- Hits: 576
With the recent collaborations between government and business entities, the ties between Tijuana and San Diego – dubbed the binational mega-region – are stronger than ever, and the fence that separates our two cities is becoming more and more irrelevant.
Thanks to organizations such as NST client CaliBaja Mega-Region, which is committed to promoting foreign direct investment initiatives for San Diego County, Imperial County and Baja California, we have more resources than ever to connect with stakeholders on both sides of the border. Both San Diego and Tijuana's Economic Development Committees are involved in the cross-border business community, which helps promote the benefits of our region for new opportunities, ultimately showcasing our region as a global competitor.
Another great example is the International Business Affairs Committee from the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, which focuses on advocacy for the chamber regarding international issues and the cross-border community.
In the public sector, we have San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, who is becoming the biggest and best English-speaking sponsor for our binational community. You can see an example of Mayor Faulconer's efforts to position our community in this Wall Street Journal interview from February.
Tijuana and San Diego's geographically blessed location is more than just a doorway to trade and commerce: it's a doorway for all to explore a new community and culture. So, next time you hear a San Diegan raving about the culinary scene in Tijuana or see a Tijuanense at a San Diego Padres game, don't be surprised.
It's what makes our region so unique and what gives businesses here unlimited opportunities.
