- Hits: 683
In today's dynamic manufacturing environment, companies have several attractive options to consider when evaluating a manufacturing expansion to a foreign country.
Manufacturing in Mexico and in particular in the Baja California region, gives you access to the best combination of assets for establishing a manufacturing operation.
CPI's most recent group tour took place in June. Over 15 companies attended from diverse industries including metal manufacturing, medical devices, furniture manufacturing and business consultants looking for contract manufacturing opportunities as well as to learn about the Maquiladora Shelter Program as a turnkey solution to set up a plant in Mexico.
The one-day tour took place in the nearshore border cities of Tecate and Tijuana, Baja California. Attendees had the opportunity to visit manufacturing facilities known as “Centers for Manufacturing Excellence” in their respective industries as well as hear straight from manufacturing leaders and plant managers who shared their experiences in setting up a manufacturing plant in Mexico. They also participated in several presentations with industry experts in legal, finance, Mexico import/export and real estate.
“We chose three very different manufacturing operations to give attendees the chance to see a broad range of the high-quality products the Mexican workforce is capable of. From Camelback, an outdoors equipment company based in Petaluma, California and SMK to leading electronics manufacturer to Hunter Industries, the Southern California-based plastic valve and irrigation products manufacturer and contract manufacturer” says Martinez.
The trip to Tijuana included visiting 3 different manufacturing companies and we were deeply surprised to discover how well these plants were run. The staff who took care of showing us around their plant was outstanding as they were all very generous with their time and showed great patience for all participants numerous questions. The entire experience with CPI was extremely valuable. Our company will be happy to strongly recommend CPI as a dedicated partner in the process of moving your manufacturing operation to Tijuana. - Purchasing Manager, Furniture Company
Taking the tour as a team helped our organization in a decisive manner and move from the imaginary and visionary stage into a real and actual world class incremental analysis solution. It provided the synergy to step into the real and actual opportunity that manufacturing in Tijuana represents.

The CPI tour FAR EXCEEDED any expectation I had. The entire team was extremely professional. They were fluent in English and Spanish, expertly familiar with the region and the state of manufacturing, and knowledgeable of the various manufacturing processes. Additionally, the tour was not only professional, but was a friendly and pleasant experience from start to finish.

Decades ago, foreign manufacturers began eyeing the region for its low-cost labor and simple assembly. Today the Mexico manufacturing landscape is much different. It is now common to find companies that design, develop and manufacture some of the most complex products in the marketplace for the medical device, aerospace, automotive and electronics industries. Global manufacturers and suppliers alike are flocking to Mexico for its 50 years of manufacturing experience, favorable trade agreements, Maquiladora IMMEX program benefits, strategic manufacturing location, highly skilled low-cost labor force and more.
It’s these benefits that are contributing to the high enthusiasm for CPI’s Mexico Manufacturing Plant Tours. Denisse Martinez, CPI’s Marketing Director, said US manufacturing companies are constantly requesting industrial tours in order to see Mexico’s manufacturing sectors up close and personal.
Almost every major industrial sector is represented in Mexico, including manufacturers in the aerospace and defense, electronics, medical device, plastics, automotive and auto parts manufacturing. If you’re a manufacturer and are ready to see manufacturing in Mexico for yourself, this is an opportunity not to be missed!
