SAN DIEGO: Co-Production International (CPI) has completed the construction management phase of its shelter services contract, enabling Aspen Medical Products to open its new medical device facility in Tijuana, Mexico.
Aspen Medical Product’s new medical device manufacturing facility will be located in Tijuana’s new Vesta 3 Industrial Park. CPI was able to secure a favorable lease for Aspen Medical Products, manage the tenant improvement construction process to bring the facility up to their specifications, and secure all the necessary permits.
CPI and Aspen Medical Products have coordinated their efforts to hire a successful team of professionals to manage this facility, and coordinated the transportation of production equipment and raw materials.
Aspen Medical Products is a leader in spinal bracing and recognized as “one of the best places to work in California.” Aspen Medical Products will bring this culture to its new Tijuana facility to produce several lines of spinal bracing products, which are used to support the body after serious injury, surgery or as a result of chronic pain.
Aspen Medical Products was very diligent in evaluating potential sites for the new facility, according to John Hamilton, Aspen Medical Products’ Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and Special Projects.
We considered a number of options, including the possibility of opening our own facility or utilizing a shelter service. We considered locations such as Mexicali, Ciudad Juárez, Rosarito, and Tijuana. We chose Tijuana for its proximity to our Irvine, California Headquarters, the quality of the workforce and the ability to work with CPI.
Aspen Medical Products was equally diligent in choosing a shelter services company.
We did extensive research and felt that CPI was the best shelter services company for Aspen in Tijuana and by partnering with them, we were able to minimize our risk of operating in a new country.
Tijuana is just a two-hour drive south of Aspen Medical Product’s headquarters in Irvine, California. With its proximity to U.S. metropolitan areas and transport routes, Tijuana is a nearshore manufacturing and processing center for U.S. companies, particularly in the medical device manufacturing.
CPI has provided shelter services to medical device manufacturers for over 35 years. With its long history in the region, CPI can provide a client like Aspen Medical Products with an end-to-end range of administrative services – site selection, construction management, operational support, administration and personnel, customs and logistics support and aid in compliance with Mexican regulations.
What we do best is to provide the infrastructure for new plant operations, from A to Z,” says Enrique Esparza, CEO of Co-Production International. “We allow our clients to do what they do best, which is to manufacture high precision medical devices.
Strategically headquartered in San Diego, CA, CPI is the premiere Administrative Services Provider for companies seeking to establish a manufacturing facility in Mexico. CPI’s Shelter program manages the entire array of services to launch a new facility as well as the day-to-day administration once the facility is in operation, all within the guidelines of Mexican regulations. CPI clients can thus do what they do best: focus 100% on efficient, quality manufacturing.
