Varian, a Siemens Healthineers Company is breaking ground in Tijuana with a 101,203 sq.ft. built-to-suit construction and investment of 20M USD. 

As Varian, a Siemens Healthineers Company´s Shelter Company, Co-Production International, provided assistance durig the entire process of exploration, analysis, and complete set-up. Now that the operation is up and running, CPI will continue to manage the day-to-day administration in accordance with Mexican regulations, allowing Varian to focus on manufacturing!

The work carried out by the shelters companies like CPI to attract investment to the region is highly relevant, since it's shelter program facilitates the installation and operation of the manufacturing programs that come from abroad.

A few weeks ago, through the Shelter IMMEX Program, CPI consolidated the arrival of a major investment in Tijuana: Varian, a Siemens Healthineers Company, a medical device company that was announced as a $20 million project and the initial generation of 100 high-value jobs.

Enrique Esparza, President of Co-Production International, highlighted that Baja California has competitive advantages such as its proximity to California and an equal trade system, as well as human talent with experience in the medical device industry.

“This plant represents a great opportunity, since it is the first Siemens operation in this region. It could have been Oregon or any other place for this settlement, however, the corporate decided to bet on Tijuana, which projects us as leaders,”

“I think we have leadership as a shelter company in Mexico, because we have the legal infrastructure and a team of experts that guide new projects through the entire process of moving manufacturing to Mexico, while minimizing risk and exposure, as well as saving you money, and we get it up and running much faster,” he stressed.

Veronica Contreras, Vice President of Sales at CPI, added that Varian, a Siemens Healthineers Company came to position itself as one of the most important projects, which aims to develop and grow in the long term, since its vision focuses on at least 20 years.

“CPI Shelter Services in Mexico offer them the benefits of its structure, establishing the protections that a plant seeks, such as the experience of operating in Mexico,” she said.

In order to land the investment, work was carried out from the first meetings and tours in Tijuana to learn about the situation of the industry, to the land and location, negotiations for licenses, hiring of trained personnel, among other aspects.

Finally, Contreras highlighted that today CPI fully understands the project, considered the largest in terms of high-value operations, and whose development in the region will be ensured.

Tijuana is endorsed as an investment pole in the medical device industry sector after the inauguration of Varian, a Siemens Healthineers Company Tijuana plant, which will manufacture high-end components for radiotherapy equipment that will be distributed throughout the world.

Humberto Izidoro, president of Varian for Latin America , highlighted that this plant represents an investment of 20 million dollars, which started with a workforce of 100 employees , and with the goal of manufacturing 550 linear accelerators per year, considered an important figure given that it is state-of-the-art technology.

Said accelerators will be sent to the plant in Palo Alto, California, for final assembly, he added, so this plant comes to generate value for the industrial sector in Tijuana.

Varian, a Siemens Healthineers Company, which has joined forces to combat the fight against cancer through holistic solutions and services that offer comprehensive, patient-centered, personalized and intelligent cancer care that improve the patient experience and generate transcendental impact on health care.

The director stressed that this assembly plant will bring benefits to the development and growth of state-of-the-art technology that will help in the advancement of radiotherapy in the country, with a positive impact on economic growth, since it will be carried out during the next three years to lay the foundations for an operation projected for more than 20 years.

For his part, Alejandro Paolini, CEO of Siemens Healthiners for Mexico and Central America, said that after a year of merger, both companies share a unified vision of a world without fear of cancer by overcoming the limits of innovation and complementing continuous care, which has made a big difference to thousands of patients.

He commented that in Latin America the situation is not very different. Thirteen deaths are currently registered for every twenty-two cases and it is estimated that by 2030 it will be the cause of more than one million deaths.
